Working session 3.1. : Local production, trade and consumption in a global planet

The New Economy Models (NEMs) advocate promoting local production, trade and consumption (short distribution channels). This strategy minimise carbon emmisions and improve the lives of local communities. However, we live in a global and interconnected world. How to promote local production, trade and consumption in a global world? How to find a balance between globalisation and localisation? What is the role of global trade, dumping and subsidies? How can we move from “free trade” towards “ethical and sustainable free trade” (freedom at the same time as compliance with human rights, international labor standards and Paris Agreement objectives on climate change)?
